Over 45,000 units of Honeywell Image Engines Deployed
Mar 24, 2011 - Shanghai, China – Honeywell Scanning & Mobility announced today that Korea Post, the largest postal service provider in South Korea, has chosen Honeywell to provide 8,000 IT5300 miniature imaging engines to track mail and parcel delivery. This is the seventh time that Korea Post has chosen Honeywell technology for its postal proof of delivery application, increasing the total quantity of Honeywell product purchased to over 45,000 units since 2003.
Korea Post is affiliated with the government’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy. Running over 3,600 post offices in the country, Korea Post strives to provide fast and accurate mail and parcel delivery service to its customers. In 2002, Korea Post started to equip its postal service staff with portable mobile computers—each has a bar code scan engine embedded to track mail and parcel delivery.
The Honeywell IT5300 miniature imaging engine is the key part of the mobile computer. Rather than just scanning the bar code attached to the mail or package, the IT5300 imager engine can also take an image of the item, when necessary as proof of delivery. The data will then be sent to the Korea Post Information System through the mobile computer and become available for online delivery status check.
“We have been using mobile computers equipped with Honeywell imaging engines for the past 8 years—except for 2007,” commented Mr. Dong Bae Kim, IT Planning Manager of Korea Post. “That year, we turned to a laser alternative, only to go back to the Honeywell imaging solution, as it offers secure bar code scanning and image capture in one device. It is important for our postmen to have efficient and easily accessible devices in hand while working on the road. Honeywell IT5300 engines meet our application needs and customer expectations perfectly.”
With years of proven performance, Honeywell’s IT5300 imaging engine has become the clear choice for Korea Post. Powered by Honeywell’s Adaptus® Imaging Technology, the IT5300 combines the latest CMOS image sensor, illumination, and optics to create a compact, lightweight optical module capable of reading linear, stacked linear and matrix bar codes, as well as capturing digital images. Its laser aiming can easily target the item to scan, even under direct sunlight. Additionally, damaged bar codes are no longer a bother, since the IT5300 can capture bar codes omnidirectionally to make a quick and accurate scan. Manual data input has been reduced to a minimum and field service efficiency has been greatly improved.
“Honeywell is proud to be selected as the primary provider of imaging engines for Korea Post’s mail and parcel delivery application,” commented Jay Lu, APAC OEM Sales Director of Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “Our innovative solutions are helping Korea Post better serve their customers by offering superior performance and usability. These consecutive wins are strong proof of Honeywell’s leading position in imaging technology in the AIDC industry.”
